Each point along the spectrum is different. Yet there isn’t so much of a spectrum (ranging from what start to what end?) as there is a network that flashes from node to node.

Consider:
(1) Plato in the Sophist describes the gigantomachia as Being -- that is, there is nothing that is not grounded in the eternal drama of the gods (defending their position in the clouds), the giants (sons of earth 'storming heaven') and the child (maintaining the play of the gods and the giants together). Of course all perception is 'storming heaven' -- *and* its defense -- *and* the play of these.

(2) "the whole fact of a spectrum [does] make every point on the spectrum equal" -- in just the same way as every element in Mendeleev's table is equal but not for that reason equally fitted to every need or every use.

(3) "ranging from what start to what end?" From all light at one end to all dark at the other, or from all earth at one end to all fire at the other, or all giants to all gods, or all life to all death. or all down to all up -- and so on. In-between the ends (and all being is in-between the ends as maintained in its Being by the child) are all the relations of these which can flash as individual perceptions or (as you say) as networks of these.

Bearing these thoughts in mind complicates all else. Note in regard to the spectrum especially that its ends are themselves in dynamic interaction with each other. (McLuhan stressed this repeatedly.) So it is not the case that (say) light-gods-life-up all align at one end and dark-giants-death-down at the other (as some theosophy would have it). Instead up can be dark and death as much as down can be light and life -- and vice versa. Else the child would not be the great power that it is. (But as the play of the gods and giants, the child could never be without them and alone.)

Cheers, Cameron
https://mcluhansnewsciences.com/mcluhan/znorehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09870745426523284218noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6600594361812328513.post-46365209433647282672019-08-01T17:51:21.750-07:002019-08-01T17:51:21.750-07:00Dogs bark louder by the fence.Dogs bark louder by the fence.Indrid Cold Lampin'https://www.blogger.com/profile/16583401766400183668noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6600594361812328513.post-59026730981911147922019-08-01T13:09:50.776-07:002019-08-01T13:09:50.776-07:00My dear Znore…
As usual, your high-minded prose ...My dear Znore…

As usual, your high-minded prose is a thought provoking and entertaining romp through the very gates of Chapel Perilous! Having waded through the density of information, I find myself in accord with your argument.

First, to the political… as you may know… my home State (spatially, in the navigational sense as well as philosophically… also in the navigational sense!) of Oregon will consider the “Psilocybin Service Initiative” in 2020. Voters will decide on the legalization of Psilocybin, for use in a therapeutic setting. This initiative argues for the deep, integrating value of psychedelics, and aligns with the Colorado question… the topic of your debate with Jasun (horse lover?) Horsley.

However, as your thought stream delved beyond mere politics, I would echo you take on, not only the psycho-spiritual value of such exploration, but on your sense that psychedelia leads away from authoritarianism, toward enlightened, Gnostic libertarianism. I have argued in my writings that psychedelia arose, “in inoculation” to the Industrial Military Complex and CIA craziness of the 1960s.

Traditional (read: authoritarian) power structures tend toward suppression and thought control. Beware the: “Thou Shalt Not” within these systems.

Lastly, I enjoyed your parting photo of the Zebra Entity. “Horselover had a name for it… Zebra, because it blended. The name for this is memesis… Another name is mimicry."
- from Philip K Dick’s “Valis”Jack Hearthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07601886076987129483noreply@blogger.com
